Who we are
AGROFOOD TECHIS, Lda. is a multi-disciplinary biotech operation based in Santo António da Serra, on Madeira island. We combine applied research, lab analysis, biotech production and agronomic consulting under one roof — we're not a generalist consultancy, nor a stand-alone lab: we're an agricultural R&D operation that commercializes its own science.
Our mission
Replace generic fertilization with plans specialized to each farm's microbiome. Reduce reliance on external inputs. Give farmers back scientific control over their soil.
The team
Three doctoral researchers — biochemistry, biotechnology and chemical engineering — with more than 50 combined international peer-reviewed publications.
Pedro Silva, PhD — Founder & Managing Partner
PhD in Analytical Chemistry applied to agri-food (University of Madeira / University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro). 25+ scientific publications. Leads the company strategy, the R&D programme and the commercialization of the Digital Fertilization Plan (FertiSOLO).
Jorge Freitas, PhD — Biotechnology
PhD in Biotechnology. Leads the formulation of proprietary biofertilizers — isolation, characterization and stabilization of the native rhizobacteria that are AGROFOOD TECHIS's competitive edge over generic monoculture solutions like Biostop or Kiplant.
João Gonçalves, PhD — Chemical Engineering
PhD in Chemical Engineering. Leads analytical processes and the agri-food component — physico-chemical, phytosanitary and nutritional analysis; HACCP consulting and regulatory validation.
